Sunriver Resort
Sunriver Resort is a luxury resort and residential community in Central Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.  The resort is located at the edge of the high desert, just east of the Cascade Range, 15 miles (24 km) south of Bend and 180 miles (290 km) south-southeast of Portland. The Sunriver Resort Hotel is managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts. The common areas throughout the Sunriver resort community are managed by the Sunriver Owners Association. The elevation of the resort is 4190 feet (1277 m) above sea level.
Sunriver consists of residential areas, recreational facilities, the Sunriver Resort and a commercial development know as Sunriver Village Mall. The Sunriver Village Mall offer s vacationers and permanent residents a variety of businesses and services including restaurants, retail shops, vacation rental and property management companies. The community has a permanent population of about 1700, though at any given time it may have many times as many vacationers in attendance. Sunriver has at least a dozen vacation home rental agencies offering hundreds of privately owned single family homes and condominiums. The Sunriver Resort Lodge has hotel rooms, banquet facilities, a fine dining restaurant, and other amenities. Sunriver Vacations, a conglomerate of four of the largest vacation rental companies, offers guests and the public a recreation center named Mavericks at Sunriver. Mavericks houses a cafe, rock climbing wall, cardio and weight gym, 2500-square-foot meeting room, four-lane swimming pool, flowrider and kids pool with splash fountains.
Sunriver resort is located on the grounds of Camp Abbot,  a World War II training facility designed to train combat engineers in a simulated combat environment. The U.S. Army camp opened in 1942, but by June 1944, the camp was abandoned and most of the settlement was razed.
The name Sunriver was selected by developers John Gray and Donald V. McCallum. Condominiums were built in 1968 in conjunction with the completion of Sunriver Lodge, and in 1969, the master plan was completed and developers began selling lots.
